SafeBase Alternative for SMBs: ShieldPage vs SafeBase (2026)

SafeBase is the trust center enterprise security teams buy — now part of Drata. If you are a small B2B company that needs NDA-gated documents, a subprocessor list and an AI governance page without an enterprise contract, here is the honest comparison.

TL;DR: SafeBase is a genuinely excellent trust center for companies with a security team, a procurement-heavy sales motion, and a budget that starts in the high four figures per year. Since its acquisition by Drata in early 2025 it is increasingly sold as part of a compliance-automation suite. ShieldPage is the trust center for the company that has none of those three things yet: the same public page structure buyers recognise — certifications, documents behind NDA, subprocessors, security policies, an AI governance section — from a free tier and €49/month for the full version, with cookie consent and compliance scanning in the same product. If you have a SOC 2 and a sales team fielding ten questionnaires a week, read the SafeBase section carefully. If you have two certifications, one person doing security on the side, and prospects who keep asking "do you have a trust center?", you are the company we built ShieldPage for.

What SafeBase is good at

  • Access workflows at scale. Prospects request access, get approved per document or per bundle, sign an NDA in-flow, and everything is logged. Large sales teams get Salesforce/Slack hooks so a trust-center visit becomes a signal in the pipeline.
  • Questionnaire automation. SafeBase's "AI Questionnaire Assistance" answers security questionnaires from your knowledge base — the feature that justifies the price for companies answering dozens a month.
  • Enterprise polish. SSO, custom roles, audit logs, a design that looks like it belongs under a Fortune 500 vendor's domain.
  • Drata integration. After the acquisition, controls and evidence from Drata's compliance automation can flow into the trust center, so "we are SOC 2 compliant" is backed by live monitoring rather than a PDF.

Where it stops fitting

  • Pricing and contract shape. SafeBase does not publish pricing; buyers consistently report annual contracts starting well into the thousands of euros, scaled by seats and features, and sold increasingly as part of the Drata platform. For a 15-person SaaS company with six enterprise prospects a year, that is paying for infrastructure you will not use.
  • It assumes you already have the compliance. A trust center shows what you have. If what you have is "good practices, no certifications yet", an enterprise trust center is an expensive empty room. The useful tool at that stage is the one that also helps you *build* the evidence — scans, policies, consent records — not just display it.
  • One product, not the website's whole compliance surface. Cookie consent, privacy and cookie policies, accessibility and security scanning of your public site are out of scope for SafeBase. Most SMBs end up buying two or three more tools around it.
  • Implementation weight. Access workflows, document taxonomies and integrations need someone to own them. Great when that someone exists.

What ShieldPage does differently

  • The trust center buyers expect, from the Free plan: a public page on your domain with certifications, policies, a subprocessor list, security practices, and — on Starter and up — NDA-gated documents with access-request approval and an AI governance section listing your AI systems, model providers, training stance and oversight (plus a machine-readable registry).
  • The compliance work that fills it: cookie consent that actually blocks trackers, policy generators, monthly security and accessibility scans, and a monthly compliance report that cross-checks what your site does against what your documents say. Your trust center fills with evidence instead of adjectives.
  • Priced for one website. Free for the basics; Shield at €9/month for consent + scanning; Starter at €49/month (€39 annual) for the full B2B trust center with 3 sites and 2 team members; Professional at €149/month for unlimited sites, weekly scans, NDA sharing at scale and branding removal. No per-seat pricing, no annual contract required.
  • EU-operated. Romanian company, Cloudflare and Hetzner (Germany) infrastructure, GDPR-native by necessity rather than as a region setting.

SafeBase vs Vanta vs ShieldPage: which one?

  • You are buying compliance automation first (SOC 2 / ISO 27001 evidence collection, control monitoring) and want the trust center bundled → Vanta or Drata+SafeBase; compare on the automation, the trust center is a tiebreaker.
  • You have a security team and a procurement-heavy pipeline, and the trust center is the product you need → SafeBase, still the deepest trust-center workflow on the market.
  • You are an SMB that needs to look credible to enterprise buyers now, show real evidence, and keep your website compliant — with a budget that does not have a line for "trust infrastructure" → ShieldPage.

Migrating from SafeBase (or deciding not to)

Moving is mostly re-uploading documents and re-listing subprocessors; ShieldPage's trust center supports the same section types and a custom domain, and NDA gating on Starter keeps your confidential documents confidential. Keep SafeBase if you rely on questionnaire automation or CRM-integrated access workflows — those are real capabilities we do not pretend to have. The cheap test is to build the ShieldPage trust center on the Free plan in an afternoon, point three prospects at it, and see whether anyone asks for anything it lacks.
